Here is a list of link for software products I recomend to help keep your system secure and healthy. All of the software I list is free for personal use. I am not affiliated with any of the companies or products listed, just an admirer of stuff that works.
Firefox from the Mozilla Foundation - An open sourced browser which is more secure, expandable and all around better them Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Don't believe what I have to say on this topic? Look at what USA Today said here or what Forbes said here.
Adaware from Lavasoft - A program that scan for adware, spyware, browser hijackers and other forms of malware.
Spyware Blaster from javacoolsoftware.com - A program that blocks the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. It does not remove existing malware, just prevents new items from being installed.
AVG from Grisoft - Maybe not as robust as Norton or McAfee but its a good little scanner, they do a reasonable job of keeping it up to date and it is free. Don't download suspect copies of Anti-Virus suites from Kazaa, use this instead.
Zone Alarm from Zonelabs - Their free firewall is more secure then the one that ships with Windows XP (even SP2).
